This Muju World Taekwondo Championship is very meaningful tournament in both historic and symbolic aspects. This is because it is the first time that Korea president participates in opening ceremony and admits the high value of Taekwondo; he says he will give positive support to global development of Taekwondo as the birthplace of Taekwondo. Moreover, this tournament is greatly meaningful since it tries to persue peace of Korea and open the road toward unity as Taekwondo performance in North Korea shows the first demonstration here.
However, in spite of this mood, it is considered that there would be a problem as the worry that popularity of Taekwondo will go down a lot to people in the world arises; while the excitement of Taekwondo matches held by WTF has been fallen showing too much disappointment.
Especially, Taekwondo will get estimation from IOC and people in the world, since it is competing with Karate which is a rival event in 2020 Tokyo Olympic as similar martial arts; the evaluation that our Taekwondo is overwhelming and excellent martial arts has to be received.
Therefore, we have interviews with two players to make our Taekwondo more and more progressive. We expect two players to give our Union Media honest and developmental answers.
We had an interview with two star players: player Steven Lopez(USA) who has the best results in the world and Servet Tazegul(Turkey) who has the best technique in the world; as a project of World Taekwondo United news at the press conference room on 4th floor in Muju-gun National Taekwondowon T1 stadium where 2017 World Taekwondo Championship is held for an hour from 3 o’clock on June 28th, 2017. During the interview, while two players and Turkish interpreter look bright when they have question and answer time about this tournament being held by 10 billion budget and the facility of National Taekwondowon, they look serious when they get questions about current progress of match by WTF and the match rule. At the end of the question, player says, “My heart is painful because my family used to love Taekwondo(=they don’t love Taekwondo now).” The last Servet Tazegul’s word is settled in reporter’s mind deeply but sadly…

2017년 6월 28일 오후 3시부터 한 시간 동안 2017무주세계태권도선수권대회가 펼쳐지는 무주군 국립태권도원 T1 경기장 4층 기자회견실에서 세계태권도연합뉴스 기획으로 세계최고의 전적을 자랑하는 미국의 스티븐 로페스선수와 최고의 기술력을 가진 터키의 서베트 타제굴선수 등 스타 선수 두명과 전격 인터뷰를 진행했다.
이번 무주세계태권도선수권대회는 역사적 측면과 상징적 측면에서 매우 뜻있는 대회다. 그것은 세계태권도선수권대회에 최초로 한국 대통령이 개막식에 참석하여 태권도의 높은 가치를 인정하고 종주국으로서 지구촌 태권도발전에 적극적인 지원 하겠다 하였고 세계 유일의 분단국가이지만 북측태권도 시범단이 이곳에서 최초의 시범을 펼치면서 한반도의 평화와 나가서 통일의 물꼬를 열어주는 아주 뜻 있는 대회이기 때문이다.
다만 이런 분위기 속에 WTF주최 경기 태권도가 매우 실망스럽게 박진감이 떨어지면서 세계인들에게 태권도의 인기가 많이 떨어지지 않을까 하는 걱정이 앞서면서 문제점이 아닐까 판단된다.
특히 2020도쿄올림픽에서 경쟁 종목인 가라테와 함께 유사한 격투기 종목으로서 선의의 경쟁을 벌이며 IOC와 세계인들에게 평가를 받게 되는데 우리의 태권도가 압도적인 우수한 격투기란 평가를 받아야 한다.
그래서 우리의 태권도가 더욱 더 발전적으로 나가기위해 두 선수와의 인터뷰를 진행하는 것이다. 두 선수는 저희 연합 미디어의 질의에 진솔하고 발전적인 답변을 기대한다.
인터뷰 진행 중 100억의 예산으로 진행되는 본 대회와 국립태권도원 시설 등의 질의와 응답시간에는 밝은 표정으로 대하던 두 선수와 터키어 통역감독이 WTF의 현 경기진행 현상과 경기 규정 질의가 나오자 매우 심각한 표정을 짓고 있다. 서베트 타제굴선수는 질의 중 말미 응답에서 `우리 가족이 전에는 태권도를 사랑했는데 지금은 사랑하지 않아 내 마음이 아프다'란 말을 남겼다.
