2019 KTA, Taekwondo Performance Competitions
Jeonju College became an inaugural champion with an award of 10 million won, Choseon University came 2nd, and Taerang Society ranked 3rd.
The 1st Taekwondo Performance Competition was held on November 23 and 24 at the Incheon Global Campus auditorium. Jeonju College took the first place by dramatizing the joys and sorrows of fire fighters, Choseon University came in second dealing with the May 18th Kwangju Democracy Movement while Taerang Society ranked 3rd treating on-line games as its subject matter.
The 1st Taekwondo Performance Competition was the first of its kind pursuing the ‘Fun Taekwondo’ newly attempted by the Korea Taekwondo Association (President Choi Chang Shin). The KTA proposed a new form of taekwondo that makes taekwondo fans to feel a sensation of pleasure with its dramatic savour.
In order to achieve this purpose, the KTA employs a unique but novel strategy. The association decided to form a partnership with drama producers and directors and to open its way to a mass market with taekwondo performance.

In this context, the KTA selected 8 young, promising producers and directors who are active in Daehak-ro, the hub of Korean dramas. The list includes Kim Min Kyeong (Representative of Theater Nomad), Kim Seon Kwon (Director of GPT), Baek Seok Hyeon (Theater Changse Director), Shin Dong Il (Director of GongyeonYeonguso TamguSanghwai), Sim Jae Wook (Director of Theater Baba Circus), Shin Tae Hwan (Theater Nokcha), Yoon Hae Jin (Dabangu Band), and Lee Dae Woong (Director of Theater Yeohangja)
There are also 8 selected taekwondo demonstration teams which will closely work with the above mentioned 8 producers and directors.
In addition, the KTA plans to support the launch of taekwondo performance by providing some provision such as team assisting, stage setting, cash awards, audience jury system, etc. These plans are to make every effort to make a fresh start which was never seen before in the world of taekwondo.
According to KTA President Choi Chang Shin, "The performance contest is one of the several measures and the key measure to close a gap between taekwondo and the general public by making every component of taekwondo such as gyeorugi, poomsae, and demonstration enjoyable and fun to watch. We ask for the close attention and encouragement from not only taekwondo officials but also drama artists, and fans to make this new development and change possible."

‘전주대 초대 챔피언 등극’ 상금1천만
아쉬운 2위 조선대, 저력 빛난 3위 태랑학회
‘2019 KTA ‘제1회 태권도시범공연대회’가 인천 글로벌 캠퍼스 대강당에서 23~24일 이틀간 열린 대회가 2019년 한마당대회 종합경연 우승과 3위를 차지한 전주대가 119 소방관의 애환을 각색한 작품으로 초대 챔피언에 이름을 올렸고 2위는 5.18 광주 민주항쟁을 소재로 한 작품으로 조선대학교가 차지했고 중·고등학생으로 구성된 태랑학회 팀이 온라인 게임을 주제로 구성한 작품으로 당당한 3위를 차지하며 대단원에 막을 내렸다.
‘제1회 태권도시범공연대회’는 ‘재미있는 태권도’를 추구하는 대한태권도협회(KTA·회장 최창신)의 새로운 시도였다. 대한태권도협회는 태권도 팬들에게 진한 감흥을 안겨주는 연극적 색채를 가미한 새로운 형태의 태권도를 제시한 것이었다.
KTA는 이를 구현화하기 위해 독특한 이색 전략을 운용한다. 연극 공연 제작자와 연출가와 동반자 관계를 형성함으로써 태권도시범공연이 대중시장을 꿰뚫는 가능성을 구상하는 계획이다.
이 같은 맥락에서, KTA는 대한민국 연극의 총본산 대학로에서 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있는 젊은 8인의 연출가를 선정했다. 그 주인공들은 ▲ 김민경(극단 노마드 대표) ▲ 김선권(GPT 연출) ▲ 백석현(극단 창세 연출) ▲ 신동일(공연연구소 탐구생활 연출) ▲ 심재욱(극단 바바서커스 연출) ▲ 신태환(극단 녹차) ▲ 윤혜진(다방구 밴드) ▲ 이대웅(극단 여행자 연출) 등이다.
8인의 연출가와 함께 연습하며 팬들을 이끌 태권도 시범단은 ▲ 경희대학교 ▲ 백석대학교 ▲ 용인대학교 ▲ 우석대학교 ▲ 전주대학교 ▲ 조선대학교 ▲ 세경고등학교 ▲ 태랑학회 등 8개 팀이다.
이뿐 아니다. 태권도 시범 공연의 연착륙을 위해 심혈을 쏟는 KTA는 여러 방책을 마련하고 뒷바라지에 나섰다. ▲ 팀 지원 ▲ 공연 무대 장치 지원 ▲ 상금제 ▲ 관중 심사제 등 지금까지 한국 태권도계에서 볼 수 없었던 신선한 무대를 선보이기 위해 온 힘을 다했다.
최창신 KTA 회장은 “겨루기·품새·시범 등 태권도 각 분야 모두를 재미있게 만들어 일반 관중에게 가까이 다가서려는 여러 가지 방안 중 가장 역점을 둬 기획하고 진행하는 대회다. 태권도의 새로운 발전과 변화에 태권도 관계자는 물론 문화 예술 관계자와 팬들의 관심과 격려를 부탁드린다.”라고 밝혔다.
