Alicante will host an Open International Taekwondo for Peace tournament to help financially and give visibility to Ukrainian refugees who have had to leave their country as a result of the Russian invasion, as announced on Thursday by the president of the Royal Spanish Taekwondo Federation ( RFET), G.M Jesus Castellanos.
The event, which will feature the presence of national and international competitors, will be held at the end of next April in a setting yet to be confirmed, and will allocate 100% of the profits from the event to refugees.
The Open, whose motto is “Peace is more precious than Triumph”, will be organized by the Royal Spanish Taekwondo Federation and has the collaboration of several entities and institutions that have wanted to collaborate selflessly so that the tournament can take place .
The RFET and DA, as Castellanos explained to EFE, intends to help "hundreds of refugee children and at risk of social exclusion through training and the practice of Taekwondo sports activity", something that Taekwondo has already been doing Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation” (THF) of the World Federation (WT), an entity designed to help refugees around the world with the practice of this sport.
The poster for the event features two competitors, one with the Ukrainian flag on their breastplate and the other with the Russian flag, shaking hands before a match, and honoring the WT President Dc. Chungwon Choue's motto of " Peace is more precious than Triumph”.
