On July 24, 2025, the Asian Taekwondo Union(ATU) General Assembly held in Kuching, Malaysia, held an election for the next 4 years 2025–2029.
At the general meeting, the election of Vice president, Vice president and Cuncil committee members, including the chairman, was held at the same time, and a large number of Korean taekwondo figures entered.
Kim Sang-jin, former president of the Busan City Taekwondo Association, won 33 votes, beating Yang Jin-bang, the current Korea Taekwondo Association, with 29 votes.
He emphasized "a fair and open federation, and the independence and unity of Asian taekwondo" in his inauguration.
In the Vice president election, candidate Kim Jung-heon 45 votes, beating his rivals by a wide margin and winning, Vice president.
This is evaluated as a result of reaffirming Kim's credibility and leadership contribution as the former secretary-general.

In addition, Kim Byung-hee (30 votes) and Lee Kyung-bae (27 votes) of the Republic of Korea were both elected in the Council committee election to elect 16 members.
As a result, Korea will play a central role in ATU's major decision-making over the next four years with a three-member system of Chairman (Kim Sang-jin), Vice Chairman (Kim Joong-heon), and Executive Committee (Kim Byung-hee and Lee Kyung-bae).

In the future, ATU is expected to accelerate the development of Asian Taekwondo by appointing senior members and forming a new executive department.
Meanwhile, the ATU,s JULIOR, CADET, and the PARA will be held in Kuching for eight days from July 25 to August 1.

2025년 7월 24일, 10시 말레이시아 쿠칭에서 개최된 아시아태권도연맹(ATU) 총회에서 10대 차기 2025–2029년 임원을 선거가 진행되었다.
이날 총회에서는 회장을 포함한 부회장, 집행위원 선거가 동시에 치러졌으며, 대한민국 태권도계 인사들이 대거 입성하였다.
이번 회장 선거에는 김상진 전 부산시태권도협회장이 33표를 얻어 29표를 양진방 현 대한태권도협회잘을 따돌리고 당선 되었다. 김 회장은 이번 선거에서 약소국 지원과 조직 개혁, 투명 경영을 공약으로 제시해 주목을 받았다.
그는 취임 일성으로 “공정하고 열린 연맹, 그리고 아시아 태권도의 자립과 단결”을 강조했다.
부회장 선거에서는 김중헌 후보가 45표를 획득하며 경쟁 후보들을 큰 차이로 따돌리고 부회장에 당선됐다.
이는 김 신임 부회장의 과거 사무총장으로서 신뢰도와 지도력 공헌 등을 재확인하는 결과로 평가받고 있다.

또한 16명을 선출하는 집행위원 선거에서는 대한민국의 김병희 위원(30표)과 이경배 위원(27표)이 모두 당선되었다.
이로써 한국은 회장(김상진), 부회장(김중헌), 집행위원(김병희·이경배)의 3인 선출로 향후 4년간 ATU의 주요 의사결정에 중심적 역할을 하게 된다.

향후 ATU는 선임 위원들을 위촉하고 새로운 집행부를 구성하여 아시아태권도 발전에 박차를 가할것으로 전망되고 있다.
한편 쿠칭에서는 7월 25일부터 8월1까지 8일간 ATU 청소년 , 어린이, 장애인대회 열린다.
