The Election Committee of Kukkiwon announced that it will host the first-ever “Kukkiwon Presidential Election Candidate Policy Debate” on Monday, September 15 at 3 PM KST. The debate, which will last about 80 minutes, marks a historic milestone in Kukkiwon’s democratic development, enhancing fairness, transparency, and global participation.

The debate will be broadcast live on Kukkiwon’s official YouTube channel with simultaneous interpretation in Korean and English, allowing Taekwondo practitioners and enthusiasts worldwide to watch and engage. This initiative reflects Kukkiwon’s commitment to global openness and communication in line with Taekwondo’s international stature.

The program will include: opening statements, moderator-led common questions, policy verification, candidate-led free debate, and closing remarks. Each candidate will have two minutes to present key pledges. Importantly, the common questions were selected from submissions by Taekwondo organizations and the public, ensuring the debate addresses current issues and the voice of the community.

Three candidates are running for Kukkiwon President:

No. 1: Ahn Yong-kyu, Former President of Korea National Sport University

No. 2: Yun Ung-suk, Former Director of Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Academy

No. 3: Nam Seung-hyun, Former Head of Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team

Campaigning is permitted between September 10 and 18 through calls, text messages, SNS, business cards, and official recorded messages.

The Election Committee finalized 2,314 eligible voters through random selection among appointed delegates and domestic/international promotion examiners with recent activity, ensuring both fairness and representativeness.

This policy debate is expected to be a critical opportunity to evaluate the candidates’ visions and policies and will serve as a defining moment for the future direction of Kukkiwon.

국기원 선거관리위원회(이하 선관위)는 오는 9월 15일(월) 오후 3시부터 약 80분간 ‘국기원장선거 후보자 정책토론회(이하 토론회)’를 개최한다고 밝혔다. 이번 토론회는 국기원장 선거 역사상 처음으로 열리는 정책토론회로, 공정성과 투명성을 강화하기 위한 제도적 진전이라는 점에서 큰 의미를 지닌다.

토론회는 국기원 공식 유튜브 채널을 통해 생중계되며, 한국어와 영어 동시 진행으로 국내외 태권도인 누구나 시청할 수 있다. 이는 태권도의 세계적 위상에 맞는 개방성과 국제적 소통의 장이 될 전망이다.

토론회는 ▲시작 발언 ▲사회자 공통질문 ▲공약검증 토론 ▲후보자 주도권 토론 ▲마무리 발언 순으로 진행된다. 각 후보자는 2분간 주요 공약을 발표할 수 있으며, 사회자 공통질문은 지난 7월 태권도계와 대중으로부터 사전에 의견을 받아 선정된 6개 주제를 중심으로 이뤄진다. 이는 태권도계 현안과 민의를 반영한 참여형 토론회라는 점에서 주목된다.

이번 선거에는 ▲안용규 전 한국체육대학교 총장(기호 1번), ▲윤웅석 전 국기원 세계태권도연수원 원장(기호 2번), ▲남승현 전 국기원 태권도시범단 단장(기호 3번) 등 총 3명이 후보로 등록했다. 선거운동은 9월 10일부터 18일까지 전화·문자·SNS·명함 배부·녹화영상 공개 등 다양한 합법적 방법으로 가능하다.

선관위는 최근 2년간 심사추천 실적이 있는 국내외 심사추천권자와 지명단체 선거인을 무작위 추첨해 총 2,314명의 선거인단을 확정, 대표성과 공정성을 동시에 확보했다.

이번 토론회는 후보자들의 정책과 비전을 직접 검증할 수 있는 최초의 무대로, 국기원의 미래를 가늠하는 중요한 분수령이 될 것으로 보인다.
