- GTA sends 40 executive members and GTA demonstration team members 

- About 1,500 participants from 6 countries, including Thailand, ROK, India, China, Cambodia, and Philippines 

- Driving force for development of traditional Taekwondo in East Asia.

Gyeonggi-do Taekwondo Association (President, Supreme Grand master Kim gyung-duk, hereinafter GTA) jointly held “3rd Pattaya International Open Taekwondo Championship” at the indoor stadium of Pattaya, Thailand, from April 22 to April 23. 

To support Pattaya International Open Taekwondo Championship, GTA sent total of 40 people, including President, Supreme Grand master Kim gyung-duk, Vice-President Lee Young-sum, Executive Director Kim Pyeong, KTA Poomsae Chairman Hwang In-sik, Gyeongtae Foundation Executive Director Seo Myeong-gi, Kim Jong-gyu, Jeong Dae-hwan, Anyang-si Branch President Kwon Dong-hwa, Namyangju-si Branch President Kang Shin-kwan, Gwangju-si Branch President Kim Gyu-phil, special committee and technical committee members, and GTA demonstration team members. 

With the strong will of Taekwondo 9Dan holder, President Kim, GTA signed MOU with Pattaya City Hall in 2019 as the primary East Asian base to spread the traditional Taekwondo around the global community.     

The championship featured poomsae, sparring, and fundamental traditional Taekwondo skills, such as breaking and speed kicking. 

In the championship, there were about 1,500 participants from six countries, including Thailand, Republic of Korea, India, China, Cambodia, and Philippines

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor of Pattaya Kritsana Boonsawad, City Council Chairman Banlue Kullavanijaya, Jipada Suwattaphone, Superintendent of School Nopasicha Nanakhon, Vice Superintendent of School Wirapat Kutaleng, Ekklesia President Jeong Yeongheoi, Bangkok Lions Club President Park Won-sik, 88 Seoul Olympic Women’s Taekwondo Team Coach Park Phil-sun, Vice Referee Chairman Watcharin, Thailand Pattaya Education Office Taekwondo Director So Hansil (Championship organizer), Para Taekwondo Association Team Coach Jeon Tae-guk and Shin Young-guk, Baek Jung-in who traveled 800 km from Chiang Mai, Missionary Park Jong-in, Jeong Gi-hwa, and Yoon Eun-mi. 

Mayor of Pattaya Kritsana Boonsawad said, “I would like to extend my honorable thanks to GTA President Kim Gyung-duk, executive members, Pattaya City Hall people, athletes, referees, and parents. GTA is actively supporting operation and progress of the championship and Pattaya also promises to participate and support actively. I also hope all participants would accomplish their dreams of becoming the national team member. I sincerely for successful completion of the championship with GTA.”  

In the congratulatory speech, GTA President Kim said, “I would like to encourage all the participants. GTA signed MOU with Pattaya City Hall in 2019 and GTA has been actively supporting the International Open Taekwondo Championship since then. Pattaya plays an important role as the base for spreading the traditional Taekwondo in East Asia and it also contributes to development of Taekwondo in Thailand. Although the last two championships were organized by Pattaya, the championship has been promoted to an international championship this year and its scale is getting bigger. I hope that the championship will serve as the East Asian festival and settle down as the driving force for development of traditional Taekwondo in Thailand and East Asia.”    

After the opening remarks and speeches, everyone at the stadium shouted out “GTA! GTA” together.  

On Mary 21, the GTA members visited Pattaya City Hall and welcomed by Mayor Sontaya Kunplome and executives. GTA also showed promotional videos and GTA demonstration group (leader : Kang Shin-gwan) demonstrated splendid and sophisticated Taekwondo skills. The workers at Pattaya City Hall enjoyed and got amazed by the Taekwondo demonstration.

President Kim said “I would like to express my gratitude to Mayor Sontaya Kunplome and executives for their deep interest on Taekwondo. We hope to invite Pattaya people to 'Gyeonggi-do 

President Taekwondo Championships' scheduled on upcoming May 25 and continue the friendly relationship.   

In addition, 123 people participated in seminars for sparring, poomsae, referee and Kukkiwon poom/dan examination was held with 10 il poom applicants, 8 2-Dan applicants, 8 3-Dan applicants, and 3 3-Dan applicants.

경기도태권도협회(회장 김경덕, 이하 GTA)가 지난 4월 22일부터 23일까지 양일간 태국 타파야시 인도어 스타디움에서 ‘제3회 파타야시장기 국제오픈태권도대회’를 공동 개최했다.

GTA는 이번 대회 지원을 위해 김경덕 회장, 이영선 부회장, 김평 전무이사를 비롯하여 황인식 KTA 품새의장, 서명기 경태재단 상임이사, 김종규, 정대환, 이사, 권동화 안양시 회장. 강신관 남양주시 회장. 김규필 광주시 회장 그리고 특별위원회, 기술전문위원회 임원단과 GTA시범단 등 총 40명을 대거 파견했다.

태권도 9단인 김 회장의 강한 의지로 지구촌에 전통 태권도를 보급한다는 취지로 1차 동아시아의 전진기지로 2019년 파타야 시청과 업무협약 체결하고 구축하며 실행에 옮긴 것이다.

본 대회는 품새, 겨루기뿐만 아니라 전통 태권도의 근간인 격파, 스피드발차기 등 다양한 종목으로 진행하였다.

참가 현황은 주최국 태국은 물론 한국, 인도, 중국, 캄보디아, 필리핀 등 총 6개국에서 1,500여 명의 선수들이 출전했다.

개막식에는 크리사나 분사왓 타파야 부시장을 비롯, 반르 꿀라반잇, 시의회 의장, 지다파 스왓타폰 시의원 부인, 노파시차 나나콘 교육감, 위라팟 꾸타랭 부교육감, 정영회 에클레시아 회장, 박원식 방콕 라이온스클럽 회장, 박필순 88서울올림픽 한국 여자 태권도 대표팀 코치, 왓차린 심판 부위원장, 대회를 주관한 소한실 태국 타파야 교육청 태권도 감독, 신영균 전태국 장애인태권도 대표팀 감독, 치앙마이에서 800km를 달려온 백정인, 박종인 선교사, 정기화, 유은미 선교사 등이 많은 내빈이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.

개회사에서 크리사나 분사왓 타파야 부시장은 “친애하는 김경덕 GTA 회장님과 임원단 여러분들에게 파타야 시청 관계자들과 선수단, 심판, 학부모와 함께 영광의 감사를 드린다”며 ”GTA에서 경기 운영과 진행을 위해 많은 지원을 해 주시고 있지만. 파타야시도 적극 참여하며 지원을 아끼지 않겠다. 또한 참가선수들이 향후 국가 대표가 되는 꿈을 이루길 바란다. 그리고 이번 대회가 GTA와 함께 진심으로 성공적으로 완료되길 기도한다“고 말했다.

축사에 나선 GTA 김 회장은 “우선 선수들에게 파이팅과 격려합니다. 우리 GTA는 2019년 파타야 시청과 업무협약 체결해서 파타야 시장기 국제오픈 태권도 대회를 적극 지원하고 있다. 파타야시는 동남아 전통 태권도 보급 전초기지로서의 중요한 역할을 하고 있으며 태국에 태권도는 벌써 많은 발전을 하고 있다”며 “지난 대회까지는 파타야시 자체 대회로 진행 했지만 올해는 국제대회로 승격되어 규모가 점차 확대되고 있으며, 이번 대회가 특별한 대회가 되어 동아시아 축제의 장이 되어 태국과 동아시아 전통 태권도 발전의 원동력으로 자리 맺임 되길 바란다” 했다.

개회사와 축사가 끝나자 경기장 곳곳에서는 GTA! GTA!를 연호하는 감동적인 장면이 연출되기도 했다.

한편 21일에는 파타야 시청을 방문한 GTA 일행은 손타야 쿤품 시장과 임직원들의 환대를 받고 홍보영상과 시범단(단장 강신관)의 화려하고 수준 높은 태권도 시범을 펼쳐 보이자 시청 계자들은 감탄사를 연발하며 태권도의 수준을 함것 만끽했다.

김 회장은 환대하는 시청 관계자들에게 “태권도에 깊은 관심을 보여 주시는 손타야 쿤품 시장님과 임직원들에게 감사드리며 오는 5월 25일 경기도태권도협회장기 대회 때는 타파야시 관계자들을 초청하여 지속적인 유대가 이어지길 희망한다”고 밝혔다.

또한 123명이 참가한 겨루기, 품새, 심판 등 세미나 진행과 농아 응심자 6명이 포함된 일품 10명, 2단 8명, 3품 8명, 3단 3명이 응시한 국기원 승품.단 심사를 실시했다.

파타야시는 현재 시립 초․중학교 13개 학교 중 제8학교 제5학교에 이어 제2학교에 태권도 수업이 진행되고 있으며 향후 전체학교에 정규수업으로 확대할 예정이다.
