The 30th Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Hanmadang (hereinafter "Hanmadang") will take place from July 17 to 19 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, USA, bringing together taekwondo practitioners and enthusiasts from around the globe.

This year’s Hanmadang marks a significant milestone—the 30th edition—and is expected to serve as both a celebration of taekwondo unity and a platform for expanding the martial art’s presence throughout the United States. Over 2,000 participants from 32 countries will compete in 153 divisions across 15 competition categories.

First held in 1992, the Hanmadang was created to promote taekwondo's global reach beyond the realm of competitive sparring. It highlights the martial art’s rich diversity through events such as breaking, poomsae, demonstrations, creative forms, self-defense, and taekwondo aerobics. This year’s event is especially meaningful as it returns to the United States for the first time in 17 years, following the 2008 Hanmadang held in Chicago.

Ahead of the event, Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup, accompanied by a delegation of more than 20 official judges, departed for the United States from Incheon International Airport today (July 15). The team will oversee preparations and ensure fair judging throughout the competition.

President Lee stated, “The 30th Hanmadang is a cultural festival for the global taekwondo family and a meaningful stage to reaffirm the essence of taekwondo. We are committed to showcasing taekwondo’s dignity and heritage throughout the U.S.”

The opening ceremony will be held on July 18 (Thursday) at 6:00 PM local time, featuring a spectacular performance by the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team, expected to heighten the excitement of the event.

The Hanmadang is hosted by Kukkiwon and organized by the 2025 Hanmadang Organizing Committee, with strong support from the City of Anaheim, the Korean American community, and local dojangs, all working together to expand taekwondo culture in the United States.

Competition Breakdown:

Individual Events: Power Breaking (hand strike, side kick, back kick), Record Breaking (high jump breaking, speed breaking, spinning heel kick combo), Recognized Poomsae, Creative Poomsae, Self-Defense, Comprehensive Breaking

Team Events: Recognized Poomsae, Creative Poomsae, Taekwondo Aerobics, Self-Defense, Team Comprehensive Performance.

전 세계 태권도 가족이 하나되는 ‘2025 국기원 세계태권도한마당(이하 한마당)’이 오는 7월 17일(수)부터 19일(금)까지 3일간 미국 캘리포니아주 애나하임 컨벤션센터에서 열린다.

올해로 30회를 맞이한 이번 대회는 미국 내 태권도 저변 확대와 세계 태권도 가족 간의 화합을 위한 상징적인 행사로, 32개국 2,000여 명의 태권도 수련자와 지도자들이 참가해 총 15개 종목 153개 부문에서 기량을 겨룬다.

1992년 첫 개최된 한마당은 태권도의 세계화를 위한 종합무대로, 겨루기 일변도의 대회를 넘어 격파, 품새, 시범, 창작품새, 호신술, 태권체조 등 태권도의 다양한 가치를 조명하고 계승해왔다. 특히 2008년 시카고 대회 이후 17년 만에 미국에서 개최되는 이번 한마당은 북미 태권도 활성화라는 역사적 의미를 더하고 있다.

이에 앞서, 이동섭 국기원장을 비롯한 공식 심판진 20여 명이 7월 15일 인천국제공항을 통해 미국 현지로 출국했다. 이들은 한마당의 공정한 심사와 성공적 운영을 위한 준비에 본격 돌입한다. 이동섭 원장은 “30회를 맞은 이번 한마당은 세계 태권도 가족의 문화축제이자, 태권도 본질을 재확인하는 상징적 무대”라며 “미국 현지에서도 태권도의 위상과 정통성을 널리 알릴 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

대회의 개막식은 7월 18일(목) 오후 6시(현지시간)에 개최되며, 국기원 태권도시범단이 펼치는 화려한 퍼포먼스로 대회의 열기를 한층 고조시킬 예정이다.

이번 대회는 국기원이 주최하고 ‘2025 국기원 세계태권도한마당 조직위원회’가 주관, 애너하임시와 미주 한인사회, 지역 도장 등이 협력하여 미국 내 태권도 문화 확산에 기여하게 된다.

한편 오늘(15일) 20여명의 심판들과 현지로 출발하는 이동섭 원장은 "제30회 한마당은 전 세계 태권도 가족을 위한 문화 축제이자 태권도의 본질을 재확인하는 의미 있는 무대입니다. 우리는 미국 전역 세계에 태권도의 품격있는 지속가능한 가치를 보여주기 위해 최선을 다하고 있습니다."고 말했다.

이번 대회는 개인전: 위력격파(손날, 옆차기, 뒤차기), 기록격파(높이, 속도, 연속뒤후려차기), 공인품새, 창작품새, 호신술, 종합격파, 그리고

단체전: 공인품새, 창작품새, 태권체조, 호신술, 팀대항 종합경연이 펼쳐진다.
