The World Sports Committee (WorldSC, President Seo Hyun-suk) has taken a new step to modernize the deep-rooted spirit of the Korean people. On the 5th, the World Sports Committee announced that it has officially launched the World THC, an affiliated organization of the 24th.

The inaugural ceremony, which took place in Goryeong, North Gyeongsang Province, was attended by key officials, including Seo Hyun-suk, chairman of the World Sports Committee, and Seok Jang-kyun, chairman of the World Taekwondo Martial Arts Committee. In particular, the launch is a new attempt to combine the status of a taekwondo master country with the traditions of our people's horseback martial arts, drawing attention from the world's taekwondo community.

Chairman Seok Jang-kyun expressed his ambition to "promote Korea's traditional martial arts and contribute to the development of world martial arts culture," and emphasized, "We will once again imprint the dynamics of the Korean people to the world through the combination of taekwondo and martial arts."

The launch of the committee is expected to be an important opportunity to shed new light on the history and identity of Korean martial arts beyond just expanding the sport. Our people are descendants of the horseback riding people who have been riding the battlefield since ancient times, and Taekwondo has developed based on this historical background and has grown into a global martial arts trained by more than 214 countries around the world.

President Seo Hyun-suk said, "By combining the spirit of Korean martial arts contained in Taekwondo with the valor of the mounted people, we will develop the deep-rooted martial arts spirit of our people in modern times.

World THC plans to continue its active activities by sending a Korean delegation to the "2025 Asian Cup Knight's Championship" in Mongolia and holding the "9th Daegaya International Knight's Championship" in Korea in October. Their strong moves are expected to serve as an important foothold for Taekwondo to become more attractive to future generations.

사단법인 세계스포츠위원회(WorldSC, 위원장 서현석)가 한민족의 뿌리 깊은 기상을 현대적으로 계승하기 위해 새로운 발걸음을 내디뎠다. 지난 5일, 세계스포츠위원회는 24호 산하단체인 세계태권도마상무예위원회(WorldTHC)를 공식 출범시켰다고 밝혔다.

경북 고령에서 진행된 이번 창립 체결식에는 세계스포츠위원회 서현석 위원장과 세계태권도마상무예위원회 석장균 회장 등 주요 관계자들이 참석했다. 특히 이번 출범은 태권도 종주국으로서의 위상과 우리 민족의 기마무예 전통을 결합하는 새로운 시도로, 세계 태권도계의 이목을 집중시키고 있다.

석장균 회장은 “한국의 전통 마상무예를 널리 알리고, 세계 무예 문화 발전에 기여하겠다”는 포부를 밝히며, "태권도와 마상무예의 결합을 통해 한민족의 역동성을 세계에 다시 한번 각인시킬 것"이라고 강조했다.

이번 위원회 출범은 단순한 종목 확장을 넘어, 한국 무예의 역사성과 정체성을 재조명하는 중요한 계기가 될 전망이다. 우리 민족은 고대로부터 말을 타고 전장을 누비던 기마민족의 후예이며, 태권도는 이러한 역사적 배경을 바탕으로 발전해 세계 214여 개국이 수련하는 글로벌 무예로 성장했다.

서현석 위원장은 "태권도에 담긴 한국 무예의 정신과 기마민족의 용맹성을 결합하여, 우리 민족의 뿌리 깊은 무예 정신을 현대에 맞게 개발할 것이다. 말을 탄 상태에서 펼치는 태권도 동작은 기존에 볼 수 없었던 독창적인 볼거리를 제공하며, 관객들에게 강렬한 인상을 남길 것이다. 마상 태권도는 극한의 균형 감각과 코어 근력을 요구한다. 이는 기존 태권도 수련의 한계를 넘어, 새로운 차원의 신체 단련 기회를 제공 할것이다"고 밝혔다.

세계태권도마상무예위원회는 몽골에서 개최되는 '2025 아시안컵 기사선수권대회'에 한국 대표단을 파견하고, 10월에는 국내에서 '제9회 대가야국제기사대회'를 개최하는 등 활발한 활동을 이어갈 계획이다. 이들의 힘찬 행보는 태권도가 미래 세대에게 더욱 매력적인 무예로 다가서는 중요한 발판이 될 것으로 보인다.
