Day 4– Report
The 10th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Lima, Peru, came to a close on Sunday with the First Lady of Peru, Nancy Lange Kuczynski, attending the final day’s action, which delivered a total of 10 gold medals to athletes from six different countries.
A total of 55 countries and 760 athletes took part in this year’s Championships – a record for the event – with the Republic of Korea topping the medals table.
MVP awards for recognized poomse were won, in the male category, by Kwang Ho Park from the Republic of Korea and, in the female category, by Elif Aybuke Yilmaz from Turkey. For Park it was the second year in a row in which he has won the MVP award.
MVP awards for freestyle poomse were won, in the male category, by Jeordan Dominguex from Philippines and, in the female category, by Anna Borysenko from Ukraine.
During her visit, the First Lady of Peru met with teams from different countries and had the opportunity to present a silver medal to Peruvian athlete Marcela Castillo Tokumori in the female individual under 30 division. Peru won one silver and three broze medals overall to finish.
The First Lady also met with WTF President Chungwon Choue to discuss the popularity of taekwondo throughout Peru. In the meeting she praised the Federation Deportiva Peruana de Taekwondo for organising such a successful Championships.
President Chungwon Choue said:
“It was an honour to welcome the First Lady of Peru to our Poomsae Championships in Lima. After the triumph of this year’s Championships I hope that poomsae will be included on the sports programme for the Pan American Games, just as it has been for the 2018 edition of the Asian Games. We have ambitions for poomsae to be part of the European Games and the All Africa Games in the future and we are continuing to work tirelessly to raise the sport’s profile in general.”
On the final day in Lima, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, Australia, Turkey and the Philippines all claimed gold medals.

In the recognised poomsae teams male’s junior division, Chinese Taipei defeated Mexico for the gold, with Iran and the USA winning bronze medals.
Vietnam beat Turkey to gold in the female’s cadet division of the team competition, with Mexico and the USA winning bronze medals
In the pairs cadet, the Republic of Korea claimed gold in a victory over China and the USA and Mexico took bronze.
In the individual category, Hee-do Kim from the Republic of Korea won gold in the male’s under 65 division, while the USA’s Chi Duong won silver and Iran’s Ghorban Delshad and Great Britain’s Peter Johnson won bronze.
In the female’s under 65 division, Australia’s Bronwyn Butterworth came top after defeating the USA’s Diana Hunt, with Marie France David from France and Catalina Hernandez-Ramos from Spain winning bronze.
In the individual male’s junior competition, Ji-won Kim claimed the Republic of Korea’s third gold medal of the day ahead of Germany’s Shajan Sepanlou (silver), Turkey’s Muhammed Emir Yilmaz (bronze) and the USA’s Alex Lee (bronze).
Turkey’s Elif Aybuke Yilmaz won gold in the individual female’s under 30 division, with Peru’s Marcela Castillo Tokumori coming second and Marjan Salahshouri from Iran and Claudia Cardenas from Ecuador both winning bronze.
In the individual female’s junior division, it was Chieh-ren Hsiao from Chinese Taipei who took the gold after defeating Da-sol Kim from the Republic of Korea, with the USA’s Rikki Jao and Mexico’s Sofia Sepulveda claiming bronze.
In the Freestyle event, Vietnam beat Turkey to win gold in the teams under 17 division, while Russia and the USA won bronze.
In the individual males’s over 17 category, Jeordan Dominguez from the Philippines claimed gold ahead of Vietnam’s Dinh Khoi Nguyen (silver), Colombia’s Leandro Augusto Rodriguez (bronze) and Turkey’s Oguzhan Mustafa Ornek (bronze).

he 3rd day of the 10th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Lima, Peru, delivered a total of eight gold medals to seven different countries across the individual, pair and team competitions.
China, Thailand, Turkey, Republic of Korea, Australia, USA and Ukraine all claimed gold medals during a successful third day of the Championships.

In the Recognized Poomsae teams male under 30 division, China defeated Chinese Taipei for the gold medal, with Iran and the Philippines winning bronze medals.
Thailand beat Chinese Taipei to gold in the junior female division of the team competition, with Vietnam and China claiming bronze medals.
In the pairs over 30, Turkey were victorious as Iran took the silver and Chinese Taipei and Brazil won bronzes.
In the individuals category, the Republic of Korea’ Kwang-ho Park won the gold medal in the men’s under 30. China’s Yuxiang Zhu, Iran’s Mahdi Jamali Fashi and the Philippines’ Rodolfo Reyes Jr. joined the Republic of Korea on the podium.
In the individuals men’s over 65, Australia’s Barry Jordan claimed the title ahead of Great Britain’s Michael Pejic (silver), Brazil’s Moyses Takanohashi (bronze) and Bruce Gallup of the USA (bronze).
Thoa Nguyen of the USA won the gold medal in the individuals female under 50.
Germany’s Candida Tunkel won silver and Russia’s Tatiana Parfenenko and Sweden’s Charlotte Dahlqvist took the bronze.
In the Freestyle event, Turkey claimed their second gold medal of the day in the pairs over 17. The USA won the silver medal with China and the Philippines claiming bronze medals.
Ukraine beat Denmark to the Freestyle individuals female under 17 title, with Turkey and Canada winning the bronze medals.
A record 760 athletes from 55 countries are competing at this year’s World Championships with a total of 36 gold medals awarded in both Recognized Poomsae and Freestyle Poomsae. The Championships can be watched live on the WTF YouTube Channel and will conclude tomorrow.

The 2nd day of the 10th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Lima, Peru, saw medals awarded in team, pair and individual competitions across 11 divisions.
Five countries won two gold medals each: the Philippines, Iran, China, the Republic of Korea and the USA, while Germany won the remaining available gold medal.

In the teams male over 30 division, the Philippines took gold over Turkey whilst Iran and the USA took the bronze medals.
In the teams female over 30 division, Iran went all the way to win gold, with the USA winning silver and Finland and Russia winning bronze medals.
Over in the teams male Cadet division, China ousted Vietnam to take the gold with Peru, in front of a home crowd, winning bronze along with the USA.
In the Junior division of the pair competition, the Republic of Korea took the title with Mexico winning silver, and Iran and the USA finishing with bronze medals.
In the individual competitions on day 2, it was the Republic of Korea’s Jin-han Lee who won the male under 50 division beating Pok Sun Yang from the USA. The bronzes went to June Ninobla from the Philippines and Hayri Temel Alper from Turkey.
In the individual male under 40 division, the Philippines could celebrate another gold medal thanks to Ernesto Guzman’s triumph over Iran’s Ali Salmani. The bronze medals were won by the Republic of Korea’s Do-gyeong Kim and Serbia’s Branislav Kuruca.
In the individual female under 60 division, Germany’s Imke Turner overcame Mexico’s Patricia Martinez to win gold with the Republic of Korea’s Yeong-ae Seo and Austria’s Leni Niedermayr taking the bronze medals.
In the individual female under 40 division, Atousa Farahmand Parsa from Iran was crowned the victor ahead of Russia’s Natalia Tipliakova. Finland’s Johanna Nukari and Turkey’s Serim Olgun Kahveci won the bronzes
In the individual female over 65 category, it was victory for the USA thanks to Erica Linthorst’s efforts in overcoming Russia’s Valentina Kontorina. The bronzes were awarded to Olga Maria Bustos from Colombia and Lis Borring from Denmark.
In the Freestyle team over 17 division, China took gold with Vietnam taking silver and Denmark and the Philippines in the bronze medal positions.
In the Freestyle individual male under 17 division, the USA’s Tyler Dao took gold with Turkey’s Enes Doguhan Bilgin gaining silver. Vietnam’s Anh Tuan Bui and Canada’s Mark Bush won bronze medals.
The Championships will continue over the next two days and can be watched live on the WTF YouTube Channel.

Day 1 – Report
The 10th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships got underway in Lima, Peru on Thursday with the world’s best athletes from seven divisions across five age categories competing for gold.
The seven gold medals available were split between five different countries with Korea and Turkey both finishing the day with two gold medals and Mexico, Chinese Taipei and the United States all winning one gold medal.
In the individual male Cadet division, it was Mexico’s William Arroyo who came out on top beating Iran’s Sepehr Abdi to the gold medal. While home favourite Santiago Aguirre Flores won bronze along with Jae-wook Yoon from Korea.
Over in the individual female Cadet division, Yu-ha Kim from Korea won gold with Huiyue Zhang from China taking silver and Melia Hus from the Netherlands and Sevval Yarar from Turkey claiming the two bronze medals.
In the male under 60 division, Turkey’s Mustafa Yilmaz secured gold, France’s Phillippe Montosi won silver and Korea’s Byoung-young Lim and Australia’s Robert Pace shared bronze.
Korea’s second gold of the day came in the pair under 30 division as they saw off competition from Thailand who won silver and Iran who took bronze.
Meanwhile, in the team under 30 category it was Chinese Taipei that finished in the gold medal position with Vietnam finishing with silver and Iran, as in the pair under 30 category, finishing with bronze.
In the individual Free Style over 17 division, the United States won gold, Spain won silver and the Netherlands won bronze.
While in the Free Style pair under 17 Turkey won gold, Spain won silver and the United States won bronze.
In the evening there was an opening ceremony at which WTF President Chungwon Choue was joined by IOC Member and WTF Vice President Ivan Dibos; Pan America Taekwondo Union President Ji Ho Choi; Federacion Deportiva Peruana de Taekwondo president Joao Tanaka; Peru Olympic Committee President Jose Quinones Gonzalez and President of the Peruvian Institute. Saul Barrera.
During the opening ceremony, President Choue spoke about the impact the inclusion of Poomsae taekwondo at the Jakarta Asian Games in 2018 and the significant increase in popularity of Poomsae around the world.
