Asian Taekwondo Union Successfully Concludes 2025 International Referee Education Program

– 100 international referees from 30 countries trained to strengthen fairness and professionalism –

The Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU), led by President Kim Sang-jin, has successfully concluded the 2025 International Referee Education Program held from December 17 to 20, 2025, at Korea National Sport University in Seoul. The large-scale program brought together 100 international referees from 30 Asian countries for four days of intensive, structured education designed to prepare referees for new competition rules and judging standards to be implemented in 2026.

Unlike conventional certification training, the program focused on practical, field-oriented referee development. Curriculum included in-depth instruction on scoring criteria, decision procedures, and practical case-based exercises. For poomsae, the curriculum allowed step-by-step learning from basic moves to detailed evaluation criteria. A Para-Taekwondo classification certification course was also held concurrently.

The 2025 program represents the first major implementation of President Kim’s reform agenda for international referee education and fair competition systems. Since assuming office, Kim has committed to reorganizing referee education structures to enhance transparency and consistency in officiating across Asia.

To extend opportunities equitably, the ATU expanded support to referees from nations with previously limited access to such programs. The Union also provided accommodation, meals, and local transportation to ensure an optimal training environment. Feedback from participants highlighted the high effectiveness of combining theoretical learning with practical application.

President Kim stated, “This program was designed not merely for certification but to cultivate international referees equipped with the competencies required in real competitive environments. We will continue to advance referee capabilities to ensure fair and accurate judging at the upcoming Asian Taekwondo Championships and Asian Games.”

He also expressed gratitude to participating officials and educators, underlining the union’s commitment to regular, ongoing referee education programs that will further elevate competition standards and officiating fairness throughout the Asian Taekwondo community.

In addition, the Para-Taekwondo classification course jointly hosted with World Para-Taekwondo reflects ATU’s ongoing efforts to develop specialized expertise for Para competitions.

– 30개국 100명 국제심판 참여… 공정·전문 심판 양성 기반 구축 –

아시아태권도연맹(ATU, 회장 김상진)이 지난 2025년 12월 17일부터 20일까지 서울 한국체육대학교에서 개최한 **‘2025 국제심판 교육 프로그램’**을 성공적으로 마무리했다. 이번 교육 프로그램은 아시아 30개국에서 100명의 국제심판이 참가한 대규모 교육 행사로, 2026년 새롭게 적용될 경기 규정과 판정 기준에 대비한 체계적인 교육이 4일간 집중적으로 시행됐다.

이번 프로그램은 단순 자격증 취득을 위한 형식적 교육이 아닌, 현장 실전 역량을 강화하는 실무 중심 교육에 초점을 맞췄다. 특히 경기 현장에서 필수적인 채점 기준, 판정 절차, 실제 사례 기반 실습 교육 등이 강화되어 참가 심판들의 전문성을 크게 높였다는 평가를 받았다. 품새 종목에서는 기본 동작에서 평가 기준까지 단계적으로 학습할 수 있는 체계적 커리큘럼이 시행되었으며, 파라 태권도 등급 분류 과정도 함께 진행됐다.

이번 교육의 가장 큰 특징은 국제심판 교육 체계 개편 및 공정한 경기 운영 시스템 구축이라는 김상진 회장의 공약이 실제로 구현된 첫 사례라는 점이다. 김 회장은 취임 직후부터 국제심판 교육을 체계화하고, 투명하고 공정한 경기 판정 기반을 마련하겠다는 의지를 지속적으로 밝혀왔다.

ATU는 그동안 교육 기회가 적었던 국가의 심판들도 참여할 수 있도록 지원 범위를 확대했으며, 숙박, 중식, 이동 버스 제공 등 교육 환경 개선에도 적극 나섰다. 참가자들은 교육 내용에 대해 매우 높은 만족도를 보였으며, 특히 이론과 실전 교육을 결합한 커리큘럼이 큰 도움이 되었다는 평가가 많았다.

김상진 아시아태권도연맹 회장은 “이번 교육은 단순 자격증 취득을 넘어, 실제 경기 현장에서 공정한 판정을 수행할 수 있는 현장 중심의 국제심판 양성을 목표로 했다”며, “앞으로도 정기적인 국제심판 교육 프로그램을 운영해 아시아 태권도의 경기 수준과 판정 공정성을 한층 더 높여나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

또한 그는 “내년 열릴 아시아태권도선수권대회와 아시안게임에서도 공정한 경기 운영이 이뤄질 수 있도록 국제심판 역량 강화에 지속적으로 힘쓰겠다”고 덧붙였다.

한편 이번 프로그램에서는 세계 파라 태권도와 공동 주최한 파라 등급 분류 자격증 과정도 병행되어, 파라 태권도 심판 전문가 양성에 대한 노력 역시 함께 진행됐다.
